Lean out of the window est le 5ème poème du recueil Chamber Music écrit par James Joyce (1882-1941) alors âgé d'une vingtaine d'années.
Syd Barrett (1946-2006), premier chanteur, et fondateur de Pink Floyd a mis en musique et interprété le texte. Le titre figure sur son 1er album solo, The Madcap Laughs (Harvest/EMI,1969). Syd Barrett avait quitté le groupe un an auparavant pour cause de troubles mentaux aggravés par l'usage de drogues. L'album est co-produit notamment par David Gilmour et Roger Waters.
